Mammal
Mountain reedbuck
Redunca fulvorufula · Rooiribbok
Redder and stockier than the grey rhebok, with short, forward-hooked horns on the rams. Mountain reedbuck favour grass-covered ridges and broken, rocky hillsides, up to about 2,200 m in the Berg, and need drinking water nearby. Numbers in South Africa’s protected areas fell by an estimated 61–73% in roughly 15 years, for reasons that are still not well understood.
