Mammal
Rock hyrax
Procavia capensis · Dassie
It looks like an oversized guinea pig, but the dassie is a distant relative of elephants and sea cows. Colonies live in rock crevices and, much like reptiles, bask on cold mornings to warm up. Dassies are the staple prey of Verreaux’s eagles.
