Fire lily
Cyrtanthus spp.
Several Cyrtanthus species are strongly stimulated to flower by winter fires, pushing up trumpet-shaped flowers from the ash before the grass regrows. The one most often seen in the Berg is the yellow fire lily (C. breviflorus), whose scented yellow stars are often the first flowers on burnt ground in late winter.
