Heaths
Erica spp.
Ericas are better known from the Cape fynbos, but the high Berg has its own, several found nowhere else. On the summit Erica dominans, a low shrub with tiny pinkish bells, is often dominant over large areas, forming alpine heath with Helichrysum. Lower down, the fire heath (E. cerinthoides) resprouts after burns with clusters of inflated red tubes.
