Mountain cypress
Widdringtonia nodiflora · Mountain cedar, Bergsipres
One of South Africa’s few indigenous conifers: a columnar bush or small tree with tiny scale-like leaves, round woody cones and bark that peels in fine strips. Its resinous foliage burns readily, but burnt trees usually resprout from the base. In the Berg it is part of the scrubby fynbos-like vegetation of the subalpine belt.
