Kniphofia spp. · Vuurpyl
KwaZulu-Natal has more Kniphofia species than any other province, and several grow in the Berg, each flowering in its own window. The dense spikes open from the bottom up, so one head often shades from red buds to paler open flowers. Kniphofia caulescens, with blue-grey leaves and coral-to-cream heads, forms big colonies in marshes and on wet cliffs right up to about 3,000 m.
