Grass
Red grass
Themeda triandra · Rooigras
One of the main grasses of the Berg’s grasslands, and a sign of veld in good condition. It is green in summer and turns red with age, its wedge-shaped seed clusters wrapped in reddish-brown bracts. It copes well with the park’s regular burning, as long as it isn’t overgrazed. The long awns twist when wet and drill the seeds into the ground.
