Pineapple lily
Eucomis spp. · Pineapple flower
Stout spikes of greenish, white or purple-edged star-shaped flowers, crowned with a tuft of leafy bracts. About four species grow in the Drakensberg, including the forest pineapple flower (E. bicolor, Near Threatened) and the dwarf E. humilis, found only in the KZN Berg at about 2,200–2,900 m. The bulbs are used in traditional medicine, and some species have been over-harvested elsewhere.
