Satyrium, Disa, Habenaria & others
The Drakensberg grasslands are rich in terrestrial orchids: close to a hundred species have been photographed in the park. They range from spikes of tiny green flowers to showy pink and white ones; among the most often seen are Satyrium longicauda, Satyrium cristatum, Disa stachyoides and Habenaria dives. Many flower for only a few weeks and then vanish underground again.
